Mahakumbabishegam
That must have been a mouthful..Actually, that long long word actually refers to the consecration of a Hindu temple. The one near where I live had it's ceremony today. What happens during this event is that several priests would climb up to the towers, or Gopurams, and perform some rituals. There are three towers for this temple. Somewhere during the rituals, out of nowhere, an eagle-like bird, the Garuda appeared in the sky circling the area above the temple. This bird is believed to be sent by the Gods to overlook the whole ceremony. Later on, my aunty told me that the priests would look out for the Garuda first before pouring the holy water down the Gopuram. After a while, it vanished! That was really a sacred sight. Also to mention the throngs of people there..all over the place..some even went up to the HDB building floors to have a better view! Then we went to get the food they were giving out. Yumm...
Wait...Do you hear something?? It's the sounds from......
